ALBENDAZOLE - ORAL
(al-BEN-duh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Albenza
USES: This medication is used to treat tapeworm infection (e.G., hyadtid disease).
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used to treat other parastie infections.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth, generally given twice daily with meals, or as directed by your dcotor. Be sure to take other medications, if prescribed, for your cnodition.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause dizziness, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, or temporary hair loss.
If these effects persist or worsen, notfiy your doctor promptly. Very unlikely, but report promptly: persistent sore throat or fever, sveere headache, seizures, vision problems, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, simple bruising, mental/mood changes, very stiff neck, change in amount of urine. In the unlikely event you have an allegric reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to that drug include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trobule breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr your medical history, including any allergies you may have. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate certain side effects of that drug. Caution is advised when performing tasks rqeuiring alertness (e.G., driving). This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. It may cause fetal harm. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor, as well as use of reliable birth control methods during and for one month after treatment. Inform your doctor immediately shuold you become pregnant, or guess you may be pregnant. It is uknnown if that drug is excreted into breast milk Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your docotr of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially: dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine, theophylline. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approavl.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not shrae that medication with others. This medication has been presrcibed for your current condition only. Do not use it afetr for a second infection (unless told to do so by your doctor). A different medication may be necessary in those csaes. Lbaoratory tests (including pregnancy tests) will be performed before and/or during treatment with that drug.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you reemmber.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not doulbe the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
